Max Weinberg Presents Let There Be Drums, Vol. 2: The '60s
Drummer Max Weinberg's anthology series presenting the songs that inspired him moved into the 1960s with
this collection. Once more, the variety of genres and artists was impressive, even if many songs were
established anthems. There was blue-eyed soul from the Rascals, Memphis and Southern soul with Booker T.
& the MGs, Percy Sledge, Aretha Franklin, Sam and Dave and Wilson Pickett, surf tunes with Jan and Dean,
the Ventures and Surfaris, and more conventional rock by Steppenwolf, the Hollies, Creedence Clearwater
Revival and the Band. Weinberg also included some surprises with the Strangeloves' "I Want Candy" and
Moby Grape's "Omaha."
