Sassafras: Riding High

[cover art]

Sassafras was formed in Wales in 1972 by Terry Bennett (vocals), Dai Shell (guitar), Ralph Evans (guitar, vocals), Ricky John Holt (bass, vocals) and Robert Jones (drums). The group played their good-time rockin' boogie mostly in the shadow of Status Quo and Canned Heat. Released three critically lambasted albums, even having time to lay down their version of The Beatles "I Am The Walrus" on a Chrysalis set, Over The Rainbow - The Last Concert Live! (Also recorded a cover of Neil Young's "Ohio" on Wheelin' N' Dealin'.)

1976's Riding High LP includes a cover of the Rick Danko/ Bobby Charles song "Small Town Talk", also released as the A-side of a British 45 single the same year (Chrysalis CHS-2098A).
