Levon Helm's nephew, drummer and singer Terry Cagle, was a member of the Cate Brothers Band when they played with The Band in the '80s. He also played as a member of the "Australian Band" in 1988.

Terry Cagle and his group the Jungle Bush Beaters, named after Levon Helm's first high school band, released the album Distant Drums in 2000.
