Todd Rundgren: Runt

[cover art]

Runt, Todd Rundgren's debut, might have been a little uneven, but its homemade production, spirited arrangements, and great tunes, like "We Gotta Get You a Woman" and "I'm in the Clique," made this one of the most appealing albums of his career.
-- Rick Clark, All-Music Guide

Todd Rundgren did mixing and engineering for The Band on their 1970 studio album Stage Fright. On Rundgren's Runt album, released the same year, Levon Helm and Rick Danko appears on drums and bass on the song "Once Burned". Rundgren used a different bass/drum team on "I'm In the Clique" - Steve Swallow & Roy Haynes from the Gary Burton Quartet, so it seems he was experimenting with using different rhythm sections on different songs to get a particular mood. Most of the album uses the Sales brothers as the rhythm section. The Sales brothers would later, much later, team with David Bowie to form Tin Machine.
