Nazareth: 'snaz

[cover art]

1981 live album from the Scottish hard rock quartet Nazareth, who had a handful of hits in the late '70s including the proto-power ballad, "Love Hurts." 'snaz includes a cover version of the Rick Danko/Emmet Grogan song "Java Blues" from Danko's 1977 solo album. Singer/screamer Dan McCafferty introduces the tune by saying something like "This is a Rick Danko song...."

The group Nazareth is actually named after the town of Nazareth, PA, that appears in the first line of The Band's song "The Weight". All original Nazareth members are/were big fans of The Band. They did a storming cover of "Long Black Veil" back in 1991, with only vocals (by McCafferty) and drums (by Darrell Sweet, who passed away in 1999.)
