Being from Richard (BEAK) Manuel's hometown (poulation 28000), it's great to have a website for THE BAND, When they are on tour they sometimes stop by at a club about 30 miles from here to play a few tunes. Anyway keep up the good work.

The Band site is inspirational! This group was an original for sure. One area I would love to get info on would be the driving force / meaning behind the songs. Overall, great job!!! Jeff

This page is superb!! I saw The Band last weekend. The show was beyond belief!! Amazing. I met Levon, shook his hand and he signed my copy of This Wheel's on Fire. He also said to my friend Michael in the sweetest Levon drawl and with a twinkle in his eye, "You take care of these pretty ladies now, ya hear." A perfect end to a perfect concert!! By the way, Rick's voice is still as sweet as ever and makes you cry when he croons "It makes no difference."

I'm a youngin' -- born the year the Band broke up, and I first discovered them when I read a beautiful article on them at age 14, a very impressionable age -- I felt then like Robbie must have when he first discovered rock'n'roll and headed down the crazy river in search of it. I searched high and low for their music and finally found the brown album in my friend's father's collection one October day, and I have never been so completely transfixed in my life. Traveling through the South last year, I put on Rockin' Chair as we drove through the Virginia mountains; the experience was almost religious. Later on, I found us coming home through Winter Park, Florida, and I couldn't help feeling a chill when I thought of Richard. I realize this all sounds disjointed, but I suppose I just want to express how truly beautiful this thing is that they have created together -- and if a teenager like me is any evidence, their music truly is timeless! Love you all & God bless.

I'm 10 years old and my Dad took me to my first
Band concert on Friday night. It was in Vermont
in this old place called the Old Lantern. We had
seats back stage and I got to meet Butch Dener,
the manager of the Band. He was very nice, but
the sound system wasn't. They kept having electric
shorts and I thought the soundboard was going to
catch on fire. We were right next to it and it
was smoking. Afterwards, my Dad said that it had
been Richard Bell's night because he played so
well. The rest of the Band was good too.

The sheet music section is awesome! I have looked
everywhere for "Big Pink" and "The Band" music,
and this page has everything. Also, it has interesting
articles (I liked the one about "The Weight".)
This page is sublime.

I have loved the Band for many years. I especially like "Up on Cripple Creek," "The Weight," and "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down." I was wondering if Virgil Cane was actually a real person, killed in the Civil War. Also in the weight was any of the characters like Crazy Chester, Fannie based on real people close to the Band. The Band and Bob Dylan are two of th most influential people in the history of American Music.

An excellent website. I specially enjoyed the audio
files of the Canadian Squires recordings, which I've
never heard before. Many thanks, Jan! I heard the recordings for the first time this spring, thanks to Garth's old friend Serge that sent me the tape. Listening to this makes it easy to understand why Levon says he always thought of Richard Manuel (love his performance on "The Stones That I Throw") as the lead singer of the group. (JH)

A brilliant website! Coming from such a long way, it's not easy to come across such good material. A website truly deserving of one of the best bands ever to grace our humble earth. Such great music becomes a beacon of hope and solace in todays unforgiving world. Mr. Lewis ( Sep 13, guestbook) really said it all. From so far away, I can only dream to catch them live in concert, my envy to all those who managed to see 'the men who went up the mountain and talked to the gods'. Many thanks to Mr. Hoiberg for giving Band fans around the world the chance to get together and feast on the material. Here's hoping The Band rocks on forever! And thanks to the first Malaysian to sign the guestbook. (JH)

A person with whom I played in a blues band for several years, and who has contributed a lot of early material for this great page, introduced me to the Band and their music. I love the early things, and love what the new expanded group is doing. The pop music scene has for several years , and still is, focused on presentation and glamour. Musical values come in third ( if there is any real talent at all ). The Band music has always been presented without any window dressing . That's a trick used by most present day aggregations, who for lack of true musical knowledge, values and ability permits them to baffle the brains of today's rank and file. But whatever turns you on...! I prefer a group that is concerned with melody, harmony, rhythm and originality. The Band has never let me down where these are concerned. Maybe that's the reason why after 30 years they're still around, and continue to give people a genuine goose bump with their music. Thank you Jan for a great web site dedicated to genuine, certified rock and roll.

I saw the article about The Band on internett in our local newspaper today. I´ve enjoyed the music of The Band for years too, so I wanted to search for the pages on the www. I´m an amateur on computers and internett, so I´m really impressed.

I'm not a HUGE fan of The Band, but I wanted to commend you on the guestbook. Placing each person's email address is an excellent way for these people of similar tastes to correspond directly. You're doing your small part to bring the world together, and for this you should be proud.
With respect,
M.

Since purchasing my first Band disc nearly one year ago I have listened to virtually nothing else and become deeply enfatuated with their music and history. I'm at the point now where I have basically everything of theirs that is offered commericially and am constantly looking for any material that I can get my hands on. This page is exactly what I was looking for: bootleg tapes that I wasn't even sure exsisted, pictures I've never seen and lyrics I havn't been able to figure out. In my opinion The Band is the best band that ever was, and I look forward to printing out pictures, music and lyrics. I especially look forward to attaining as many concert tapes as Laurin will give, since I have but one myself. God bless The Band and God bless this page.
