David Munyon: Song for Danko

[album cover]

Written by David Munyon and S.P. Standley, performed by David Munyon
Released as a single on Mobile Home Records in 2006

Listen: [YouTube]

A fairly obscure but beautifully constructed, heartfelt tribute to Rick is singer/songwriter David Munyon's "Song for Danko." Munyon, a talented topical songwriter who had performed as an opener for Rick, was mesmerized with Rick both as a person and as an artist, and believed that he learned a lot about how to treat his fans by observing how Rick treated his, making everyone of them feel genuinely special and appreciated.
Carol Caffin

This song is for my friend Rick Danko. He was the nicest guy I ever met.
—David Munyon

Lyrics

Well the rolling waters, roll along here
And upon this rock I am standing
I am standing, like water falling
From a distant dream remembering your face

[Chorus]
Didn't you hear me, when I said I love you
I'm tired of fighting in these gates
You can keep all the money, give my regards for
All the preachers everywhere, and lady fate

Well the rolling waters roll along here
And upon this rock, I am standing
I am standing, like water falling
From a distant dream remembering your face

[Chorus]

I guess I miss you, miss you deeply
I remember your sad, loving eyes
Those loving eyes will be free again
This is my hope for all the human kind

[Chorus]
[Instrumental]
[Repeat first verse]
