Head Of Femur: Song for Richard Manuel

[album cover]

Written and performed by Head of Femur
Album: Hysterical Stars, 2005

Listen: [YouTube]

The Chicago indie rock trio (expanding to up to eight members when playing live!) Head of Femur recorded "Song for Richard Manuel" on their 2005 album Hysterical Stars. They also covered The Band's "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down" on the EP Do the Tavern... from the same year.

Lyrics

The hotel
Where I died
You cut me down, and free I was

Touch me dearly and remember me fair
Now your voice does more than move my weary days

The late-coming tears
I display
Make me believe all the songs you sang

It's the truth I hold
That every man knows
Just one more piano chord
I listen to the song, when I hear it so strong

I falter like a bird
My brother said it shouldn't suffer
Just let it be gone
Let it go, life still goes on and on and on

Past this one
Richard Manuel, I will find you (Life still goes on and on and on)
