Scott Cushnie
Scott Cushnie, a member of Robbie Robertson's early band
the Suedes (with Peter "Thumper" Traynor, who also played in Robbie's
groups "Thumper and the Trambones" and "Robbie and the Robots"),
took over Willard Jones' job as the Hawks'
pianist for a short period in 1959-60. When bass player
Jimmy Evans left the Hawks in 1960, Scott Cushnie
was the one that talked Ronnie Hawkins into hiring Robbie Robertson
as his replacement.
When Stan Szelest replaced Scott Cushnie, he
brought bassist Rebel Payne with him.
They'd both been playing with
Jerry Warren and the Tremblers - based in Hamilton, Ontario.
Ironically, Warren replaced Szelest and Payne with Cushnie
and Traynor.
Scott Cushnie rejoined Ronnie Hawkins and the Hawks later in the '60s, and has
also played with, among others, Aerosmith and Duane Allman.
In the '90s he released the albums
Two Pianos No Waiting and
Two Pianos No Waiting Volume II.
