The History of The Band

The detailed history of The Band is taken from two articles that appeared in Goldmine record collectors magazine in July 1991. The main article, an extended version of the liner notes for the compilation To Kingdom Come titled "Life Is A Carnival," was written by Grammy-winner professor Rob Bowman (well known for his work with the Internet All-Music Guide), while the second article, "Postscript", that deals with The Band and its members after the "Last Waltz", was written by Jeff Tamarkin.

These articles have been divided into chronological sections, and links to albums, lyrics etc. have been added where appropriate. The articles have also been slightly edited by Jameson Case. Some extra information on The Band after 1991 is included in the final "Postscript" section.

Thanks to Goldmine magazine, Jeff Tamarkin and Rob Bowman for giving us permission to use their articles.
